Mrs. Dorothy Mae (Shipp) Kayser, 95, of 2332 Hoffman Road, Greencastle, PA, and formerly a resident of The Village of Laurel Run, Fayetteville, PA, died at 7:45 A.M., Wednesday, February 3, 2010, in her home.
Born June 30, 1914 in Dry Run, PA, she was the daughter of the late Adam and Barbara (Tosten) Shipp. She lived her early life in the Dry Run area.
She and her husband, the late Gale C. Kayser, were married on December 24, 1943. They lived on the family farm in Clear Spring, MD from 1945 until 1971 when they moved to Maugansville, MD. Mr. Kayser died in 1997. Mrs. Kayser moved to live with her son on Hoffman Road in 2001.
Mrs. Kayser worked on the family farm in Clear Spring. She was also a cook for 12 years at the former Peoples Drug Store on the square in Hagerstown, MD.
She was a member of Antrim Assembly of God Church, Greencastle. She was a former member of Macedonia United Brethren Church, Greencastle.
Mrs. Kayser enjoyed playing the piano and singing.
She is survived by one son, Gale "Skip" Kayser of Greencastle; five grandchildren, Beverly Coyle, Jeffrey Kayser, Robert L. Poole, Austin Kayser and Sarah Kayser; five great-grandchildren; one great great-grandson; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Robert A. Poole; one grandson, Christopher Kayser; one sister, Hazel Kayser; and one brother, Paul Shipp.
Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, February 5, 2010, in Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington Street, Greencastle, with Rev. Richard Mose, officiating. Burial will follow in Welsh Run Church of the Brethren Cemetery, near Greencastle.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services, Friday afternoon, in the funeral home.
