Mr. Walter S. "Josh" Swartz, III, 65, of 357 Gladhill Road, Fairfield, PA, died Thursday, September 13, 2012 in his home. He had been in failing health for the past three years.
Born June 15, 1947 in New Kensington, PA, he was the son of Billie Mae (Cutlip) Swartz of Waynesboro and the late Walter S. Swartz, Jr.
He graduated from Hempfield High School with the class of 1965. He later attended the University of Pittsburgh and Robert Morris College in Pittsburgh.
Mr. Swartz served with the United States Army Reserves for six years.
He married the late Julie Ann (Hoover) Swartz, on December 16, 1977. They moved to Gladhill Road following the marriage. Mrs. Swartz died on Nov. 20, 1997.
Mr. Swartz was a car salesman working at Keystone Ford, Brake Pontiac – Cadillac, and Lynn Chevrolet, prior to retiring in 2006.
He attended services at Otterbein Church, Waynesboro and was a former member of the Blue Ridge Sportsman's Association and B.P.O. Elks Lodge #731, Waynesboro.
Mr. Swartz enjoyed Pittsburgh Steelers football, NASCAR, fishing, going to the beach during corvette week, going to Pen Mar Park, and taking walks in the area around his home.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by four children, Walter S. Swartz, IV and his wife, Maria of Chestertown, NY, Jana L. Swartz-Gillitzer and her husband, Jay of Waynesboro, Kristi L. Swartz of Los Angeles, CA, and William J. Swartz of Martinsburg, WV; four grandchildren, Cameryn Swartz, Aubrey Gillitzer, Isabella Swartz, and Coleman Swartz; his former wives, Donna Meininger of Ford City, PA and Ann F. Swartz of Carlisle, PA; one brother, William C. Swartz of Greensburg, PA; and four nieces.
Services will be held at 7:00 P.M., Monday, September 17, 2012 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Burial will be private in Jacob's Church Cemetery, Liberty Township, PA.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Monday evening, in the funeral home.
